独自抚养儿子长大的马林生是某机关的工会主席，他装腔作势，自命清高，在家中也趾高气扬，他在儿子马车面前摆足了父亲的谱儿。但是这一切除了让他自我感觉良好外，没有起到任何实质作用。令行禁止的家教无法让儿子臣服，马车始终与之背道而驰。在学校里，他顶撞老师，挤兑同学，三番五次被请家长，马林生因此生头疼不已。在一次失败的暴力家教过后，他想尽办法和儿子搞好关系，然而他也痛苦地认识到：父子之间的鸿沟越来越深……
